Twister versus stick in the mud

They don’t have the likes of me where you come from.

I speak quickly, act hastily, love impetuously, and suffer bitterly.

And that’s because I was born in Kansas City, Missouri.

They’ve got tornados, and they call themselves the “Show Me State”

So even though I tiptoed over fault lines as a child,

and blossomed under stormy skies,

Despite being raised on sourdough and tea,

I never got the twister out of me.

I’ve never gone about these things the right way.

And I’m sorry I turned your world upside down.

But I don’t think I should have to apologize

for being a force of nature.

This is how I was meant to be,

that’s why they call it an act of God.
